Kimberly Anne Custodio
Brown Belt
Carpe Diem Jiujitsu
"Heart is what keeps me showing up, training, and competing no matter how tough things get. It is something you can’t buy or fake.”
A decorated Brown Belt with 11 years of experience, Kimberly Anne Custodio is a testament to perseverance and dedication. Training under Myron Mangubat at Carpe Diem Jiujitsu, Kimberly’s journey is driven by the belief that she still has more to give—to herself, her students, and the sport that transformed her life. Her proudest moments come from representing the Philippines on the world stage, particularly winning gold for the country as a member of the Jiu-Jitsu National Team. For Kimberly, it’s not just about personal victory; it’s about inspiring others and using her platform to change lives, just as the sport changed hers.
Kimberly’s list of achievements is world-class. She is a multiple-time World Jiujitsu Champion, securing the gold medal in both 2022 and 2024, along with a silver in 2023. Her goals reflect her champion mindset; short-term, she is focused on preparing for the upcoming World Championship and SEA Games, aiming to perform at the highest level. Long-term, her vision extends beyond the mats. She aims to leave a lasting legacy by mentoring the next generation of athletes, building strong and disciplined kids who will carry the values of Jiu-Jitsu forward.
Her connection with Hyperfly began long before she became an ambassador. When she started Jiu-Jitsu, she dreamed of owning a Hyperfly gi. In 2016, she visited the US factory and bought her first one—the iconic Koi gi—which she wore to win a silver medal at her first World Championship as a white belt. She feels deeply aligned with the "You Can't Teach Heart" philosophy, as it reflects her own journey. "Coming from humble beginnings, everything I’ve achieved in Jiu-Jitsu came from perseverance, not privilege," she shares. Her first gi is still with her today, a symbol of the durability and quality she loves about the brand.
When she’s not on the mats, Kimberly’s life is all about recovery. After a grueling training schedule that often starts at 5:30 AM, her main hobbies are sleeping and walking her dogs. A fun fact that might surprise many? She performs better after a glass of wine the night before a competition. Her advice to newcomers is a reflection of her own path: “Be patient and stay consistent. Don’t compare your journey to others. Just keep showing up, learning, and trusting the process. Jiu-Jitsu can change your life the same way it changed mine."
